Rosacea
National Rosacea Awareness Month
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic but treatable skin condition that affects about 16 million individuals in the U.S.
Symptoms of rosacea include facial redness with swollen red bumps and small visible blood vessels. It can also cause burning, stinging, dryness, and skin thickening.
Treatment
Although the cause of rosacea is unknown, there are oral and topical medications available to treat its symptoms.
Treatment options should be discussed with your dermatologist as symptoms vary from patient to patient.
Skincare
Use of gentle and non-irritating skin care products is highly recommended.
Protection from sun exposure is advised. Individuals with rosacea should use mineral sunscreens containing titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide.
